When Windswept Dunes opened in 2004, it was destined to be one of the premier golf facilities in the Florida panhandle and has pleased golfers ever since. The Windswept Dunes golf course was designed and built by nationally-renown Doug O’Rourke. O’Rourke’s overall vision was to keep the course harmonious with the natural feel of the area and not just blindly follow a preconceived blueprint.

O’Rourke succeeded in creating a first-class golf club in Windswept Dunes. The course was immediately recognized as being one of the top 10 new public-access golf courses in 2004. Then, Golf Magazine voted it as one of the top 10 course you can play. In addition, the USGA took notice of the course when it announced that Windswept Dunes was the longest course in Florida at 7,607 yards from the championship tees.

Windswept Dunes Golf Club is located in Freeport in the panhandle of Florida. The beach-filled tourist’s destinations of Destin and Panama City are only about 30 minutes away. The course is said to top any in the area so those visiting the Emerald Coast region will be rewarded when they make the jaunt over to Freeport. Additionally, Freeport restaurants have fresh seafood and other delicious local menus. And, there is always shopping and the opportunity to frolic in the warm gulf waters.

Whether you live near the Windswept Dunes Golf Club or you are visiting from afar, you will not be disappointed in the beauty of the rewarding, yet forgiving, par 72 course. The rolling fairways are open and the sand dunes are large; however, they are placed in areas that will only penalize those shots that are truly off-course. Several water hazards create a challenge – although they are not overly abundant. It would be an injustice not to mention the lush, smooth greens that are surrounded by decorative bunkers. Every aspect of the course is well-maintained. The club’s practice facility is designed to recreate golf course conditions and includes a driving range and a large practice green. Also, the golf carts are equipped with a GPS system by Uplink – a true amenity. In all, Windswept Dunes is a tranquil course that will delight golfers and create a memorable experience.
