In 1992, Westchase Golf Club opened its 18-hole, public-access golf course and has delighted the golfers of Tampa, Florida ever since, so much so that this 4 star golf course has been ranked Number 1 in Florida for customer satisfaction. The Westchase course was designed by golf course architect, Lloyd Clifton. He planned the 6710 yard, 213 acre course to be player-friendly to accommodate all levels of golfers, yet challenging enough for the most skilled players.
Clifton’s work has been aptly rewarded from numerous sources. On a basic level, Westchase has become the most popular golf course in Tampa with over 58,000 rounds played each year. In fact, it received the Customer Loyalty and Satisfaction (CLASP) award for maintaining beautiful greens and providing superb services while still preserving value. In addition, Westchase was rated by Golf Digest with 3 ½ stars and was noted as being one of the top twenty attractions of the Tampa Bay area by Yahoo. Plus, each year tournaments are held at the club to raise money for charities.
Tampa is filled with attractions for visitors, such as Busch Gardens, the Museum of Science and Industry and the Bay itself. Restaurants, shopping, professional sport teams and a thriving nightlife round out the Tampa experience. In addition, Westchase is only minutes from the airport; so, it is easily accessible to those flying in for a weekend of golf.
Whether visiting for a few days or a lifetime resident to Tampa, Westchase will entertain and provide a memorable golfing experience. Lakes, wetlands and a conservation area will bring golfers in tune with nature. Many will appreciate the bridges and woods that are located through out this par 72 course. In fact, approximately 5000 trees are located on the course. Also, several water features provide obstacles. Consequently, the club has retrieved over 65,000 balls in the various water hazards. On a technical note, GPS systems are supplied to make it easy to determine yardage.
Players will be pleased to find that the greens have been converted to SeaDwarf Seashore Paspalum. Paspalum is used by some of the best courses internationally because it is salt-tolerant, conserves water, grows to a luscious green color and lends to outstanding playing conditions that will enhance putting greens for years into the future. The club offers residences, a 9500 square foot clubhouse that was remodeled in 2008 with new terrace furniture, new televisions, and new carpeting, wall coverings, photography and other furnishings. A fully-stocked golf shop and a restaurant round out the club’s amenities.
