About Wally Kuchar
The golf swing consists of three different stages as you develop: first, you learn to make a perfect practice swing; second you are able to make this perfect practice swing at the ball on the practice range, third; after hard work and repetition of the swing you take it to the golf course to see if it works. Many variables have to be considered in the game of golf when learning, so it is true when players say they learn something new their entire golf life. Hear is my approach to the understanding of the golf swing.
I consider four major positions in the golf swing when learning:
1. Address position
2. Top of the backswing
3. Impact area
4. Finish.
We must feel and understand these positions and produce the correct motion to attain these in order to give the swing the visual look desired when watching a swing. Consistency will develop if a player learns and feels the necessary movements in a golf swing to make solid contact at impact. Direction and consistency will follow the solid contact.
After developing the proper positions throughout the swing. The following three fundamentals are necessary in creating proper ball hitting to become the golfer you aspire to be.
1.The address position consisting of grip, stance, body feelings, and alignment becomes the first stage in creating the awareness necessary to produce the swing.
2.The direction of the flow of motion regarding the body, hands and arms and the club allows the timing, rhythm and energy to be transferred into the ball at impact. The overall swing motion co-ordinated together creates the second stage .
3.The awareness of our hands directing and controlling the swing motion is very important since it is our only contact with the club, the hands are our biggest assest. The hands and wrists create a hinging or set position in the backswing and an unhinging release into the ball at impact. This feel and hand awareness with the clubface allows us to square the club at impact with maximum release of speed and energy. Squaring the clubface into impact produces the solid impact to compress the ball and allow for each clubs complete distance.
Once a player understands and can practice this technique with success, the overall swing motion can be a long or short action with fast or slow tempo depending on the individual”s mannerisms and body makeup. The swing must have sound fundamentals, but it must also be your swing and your feelings. Knowing where the club, hands and arms are in the swing allows timing, rhythm, clubhead speed and gives the player the confidence to know and feel where the ball is going! Your learn to feel the swing to create distance and shape shots because you know and understand how this is developed.
You will not only think, feel and create the proper golf swing for each shot, but you will relax, enjoy the day and play your best golf from day to day for many years.
