The golf course at Rio Pinar Country Club has a long, yet distinguished history. First opening in 1958, this Lloyd Clifton designed course ranked amongst the best courses in Central Florida. In 1995, the course was redesigned by Clifton, himself, and returned to the same championship layout that was used in the late1960s. Five sets of tees ranging from a total of 5,346 yards to 6,978 yards make the course at Rio Pinar Country Club one that golfers of all levels of experience can enjoy.
The championship course at Rio Pinar has limited public play options, but new members are always welcome. Golfers will appreciate the artful, yet strategic bunkers and the large, well-maintained greens. The fairways are lined with pine, oak, cypress, and palm trees. There are flowering hedges and other unique features, such as a rustic bridge or two.
Anyone with reverence to the sport of golf will look at the course with awe, if they just take a moment to ponder the legends that have walked the course before them. In the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s, Rio Pinar was the home of the Citrus Open Invitational. The men’s version of the Citrus would later become the Arnold Palmer Invitational. As a result, some of the world’s greatest golfers, such as Arnold Palmer, Hale Irwin, Gary Koch, Ken Still, Jerry Heard, Beth Daniel, Lee Trevino, and Julius Boros played at Rio Pinar. The course still hosts many celebrated tournaments each year, such as the Hooter’s Golf Tour, the Florida Women’s Open, and it serves as a qualifying course for the USGA.
Rio Pinar Country Club is located only 15 minutes from downtown Orlando, Florida. Orlando is known for its proximity to Walt Disney World Resorts; however, the town also boasts professional sports teams, a thriving economic center, high end restaurants, and a hopping nightlife. Ideally situated in the middle of the state, Orlando is only a few hours drive from either the beaches of the Gulf or the Atlantic Ocean. People come from around the world to experience the wealth of attractions in Central Florida.
Golfers will find all the amenities that they may need at Rio Pinar Country Club. The clubhouse has a full service restaurant. In addition, there is a fully stocked pro shop and PGA professionals who are eager to pass on tips and techniques to all levels of golfers. There is a 300 foot wide practice tee and the yardage markers and target flags are placed with accuracy. The practice green is well-maintained and mimics the conditions found on the course. There is even a practice bunker - to give golfers added confidence when they find themselves in a sand trap.
