Golfers looking for a historic 18-hole golf course in Central Florida will be thrilled when they arrive at the Mayfair Country Club. The Mayfair Country Club was designed by legendary golf course architect, Donald Ross in 1922. Located in Sanford, Florida, it is one of the original golf courses of Florida and Sanford’s only course. Owned by the City of Sanford and managed by Phillips Golf Management team, this course has something to offer golfers of all levels of experience.
Although many golfers may initially believe that this course will be a breeze, it is actually filled with challenges. The course gives golfers a little wiggle room as they tee off, since the fairways are wide; however, the approach to the green requires an accurate shot. There are four sets of tees on the 18-hole course at Mayfair Country Club. As a result, golfers can play anywhere from 5,007 to 6,403 total yards. Other challenges include the abundance of ancient oak trees. They seem to reach out and grab balls from mid-air with their long branches. In addition, there are many sand traps scattered throughout this Central Florida golf course.
The awards that have been received by Mayfair Country Club let the course speak for itself. It was voted the 'Best Public Golf Course' by Orlando Magazine and was ranked among the “Best Places to Play” by Golf Digest readers. History buffs will appreciate the rich past that is linked to Mayfair Country Club. For example, in the 1940’s the New York Giants took over the golf course and gave the course its current name, the Mayfair. Some of the world’s best golfers have played on the 18-hole course, such as Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead.

Set within a short drive from I-4 in Florida, Mayfair Country Club can be reached in a matter of moments from many areas across Florida, including Orlando and Daytona Beach. A visit to the Mayfair Country Club will not be disappointing. The club has a driving range and a short game practice area, complete with a putting green, chipping green, and bunker. The clubhouse and locker rooms have been remodeled with all the newest conveniences. The pro shop is always stocked with the newest gear. Many golfers rave about the food at the Mayfair Grill and Pub. There, golfers can enjoy a meal, discuss their game, or sit back and catch a tournament on one of the grill’s television screens. Lessons are available on-site for golfers who want to improve, while a junior clinic is the ideal place for younger golfers to master the finery of golf.
