When the Island course at Innisbrook opened near Tampa, Florida, golfers immediately flocked to the resort. The layout of this 18-hole course was designed by world renowned golf course architect, E. Lawrence Packard. Since its opening in 1970, the course has been updated and lengthened, making it even more challenging, but keeping the natural beauty of the course intact.
With four sets of tees, golfers can decide whether they are up for the challenge of the back tees or whether the front tees are more their style at the Island course. Many golfers will opt for somewhere in-between. The back tees total an impressive 7310 yards, while the front tees are still notable at 5515 yards.
Golfers are consistently amazed by the beauty and tranquility of the Island course at Innisbrook. Golfers will encounter plenty of water, since many of the holes are surrounded by Lake Innisbrook. They will also find a seemingly endless array of sand bunkers, tall pine trees, and shady Cypress trees. These obstacles when combined with the narrowness of the fairways on the Island course will make for quite the challenge. Once on the immaculate greens, golfers will be able to look back at each hole and take in the beautiful setting.
Golf Digest has ranked the Island course at Innisbrook among the Top 50 Resort Courses in the United States. Consequently, people come from around the globe to play on this well-known course. In addition, the LPGA chose Innisbrook’s Island course as the site for its ISPS Legends Tour Open Championship. Since the course is both challenging and spectacular, it has been deemed the perfect place to host such an event. Both spectators and professional golfers, alike, will find the event thrilling with beautiful setting.
Perfectly situated near one of Florida’s premier towns, Tampa, golfers will find plenty to keep themselves busy, if they decide to leave the grounds of the 900 acre Innisbrook Resort. Tampa offers professional sporting events, theme parks, and museums. There many restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, as well. In addition, many golfers and their families will want to take advantage of Tampa’s fun-filled beaches and ocean waters.
Golfers will find a practice facility and a club house near the Island course. Innisbrook, itself, has countless options to keep golfers and their families busy for days on end. For example, there are tennis courts, swimming pools, and fishing ponds. There is also a full service spa and a fitness center. Many golfers may want to stay at one of the lodging opportunities on-site and eat at one of restaurants.
