Golfers, worldwide, consider the Copperhead course at Innisbrook to be one of the golf courses that they ‘must’ play. This course designed by legendary golf course architect, Larry Packard, in 1972 is one of the most beautiful and most challenging courses around. Located outside of Tampa, Florida, the Copperhead course at Innisbrook encompasses everything that a golf course is meant to be.
As a par 71 course, Copperhead has a little something for everyone. Those golfers who are up to a challenge of extreme proportions may want to try out the back tees, totaling 7,340 yards of play. The front tees total 5,605 yards, a perfect starting place for many golfers.
The layout of Copperhead at Innisbrook is spectacular. Water can be seen on many of the 18-holes. Sometimes it runs along the rolling fairways, other times it appears to completely separate the tee box from the green. Not only are there plenty of doglegs, golfers will also find Copperhead’s signature double doglegs. The fairways are lined with southern pine trees and the sand bunkers dot the course, creating beautiful hazards. Local wildlife can be spotted at any time or any place along the course. Some favorites include alligators, bald eagles, and blue herons.
Every year 144 PGA Tour golfers descend upon Copperhead at Innisbrook for the Transitions Championship, an official PGA Tour event. When spectators’ purchase tickets for this 72-hole event, the proceeds go towards Tampa area charities. The Transitions Championship is a multi-day event and has been is considered to be fun and inspiring for golfers and spectators alike.
The Copperhead course is located outside of Tampa, Florida. Tampa is loved for its mild temperatures and abundance of activities. Golfers will, of course, have a hard time leaving Innisbrook, but if they choose, they can catch a major league sporting event or even take a dip in the ocean. Some golfers may opt to visit Busch Gardens with their families, while others may prefer a visit to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. The area has a wealth of restaurants, bars, and shopping stores, as well.
There are many resources at Innisbrook. For example, a state-of-the-art practice facility may be found next to the first hole at Copperhead. In addition, Innisbrook Resort offers tennis pools, swimming pools, walking trails, and fishing ponds. Why leave this 900 acre resort when there is a spa and plenty of options for dining or lodging on-site, as well.
