Complete immersion into the golfing world is what most experience when they play the two championship golf courses – King & Bear and Slammer & Squire - at the World Golf Village in historic St. Augustine, Florida. These famous courses are the World Golf Hall of Fame’s official golf courses. Golfing legends, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, designed King & Bear and it opened to the delight of the golfing world in 2000. Amazingly, it is the only time the two pros have jointly undertaken a golf course design project. Consequently, the course lives up to everything golfers would dream it would be.
King & Bear is a remarkable 7,279 yard course set among pristine lakes, beautiful pines, and stately oak trees. The course has won numerous awards from a variety of sources since its opening. Golfweek Magazine named it one of the top 100 resort courses and Travel & Leisure called it golf’s most under-rated course. Also, Golf Digest gave King & Bear 4 ½ stars in their Places to Play category. Florida Monthly Magazine was wowed by the course and ranked it first among the State’s courses and resorts. Even Golf for Women Magazine placed King & Bear in the top 50 golf courses for women. Because of the high praise, many prestigious golfing events are hosted by King & Bear each year, including Champions Tour’s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, the PGA Tour Qualifying School and the Champions Tour Qualifying School.
The area surrounding King & Bear has plenty to keep both golfers and non-golfers alike busy. The World Golf Village houses the World Golf Hall of Fame, several luxury accommodations, the St. Johns County Convention Center, the PGA Tour Golf Academy, the PGA Tour retail center, several delicious restaurants, a large IMAX® theater and plenty of outlets. In addition, St. Augustine has its share of amazing restaurants, historic museums and charming shops.
Despite the abundance of local activities, most golfers will have a hard time straying from the magnificent par 72 golf course. King & Bear combines many aspects of the golfing world into one course: Irish-styled fences, a replica of the historic lighthouse of St. Augustine and other well-thought out features make it one of the premiere courses in Florida. Other amenities at King & Bear include a complete practice facility, chilled apples and towels on the course, an in-cart GPS system, a restaurant, a pro shop, and the PGA Tour Golf Academy.
